Brian D Harfe,
Associate Dean/Assistant Provost
About Brian D Harfe
Fun Fact: My wife Kate and I paid for our wedding by performing dance gigs around the Atlanta area. The goal of our research is to elucidate how the limb and intervertebral discs form. Vertebrate digits form from mesenchymal cells that undergo differentiation through an invariant genetic program to form bone and cartilage elements, however, the molecular factors involved in establishing the invariant digit pattern are not well understood. A second focus is on age-related changes in intervertebral disks. Presently, there is no cure for disk degeneration, which is one cause of back pain. Our lab has investigated the molecular signaling pathways required for disk formation using the mouse model system. Currently, I serve as Associate Dean in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and as Interim Associate Provost.
